Volunteers

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!

Dedicated volunteers spend hundreds of hours every year on an endless variety of projects, such as helping with collections, research, constructing displays, facility repairs, assisting in the Museum Headquarters or greeting visitors to the Museum.  The application period for volunteer jobs is always open.  Follow the link below to find the Museum Volunteer Application Form.  Thank you for your interest.

Volunteer Opportunities: We have ample opportunities for volunteering.

Docents: Want to learn more about the History of Yolo County?   Be a docent !!! Docents are guides that help visitors learn about the Museum and Yolo County’s past. Training to be a docent is easy and fun! There are no lengthy requirements , just a few hours a month will enable you to help others appreciate the past. Become a Gibson House Docent Today!!

Cataloging Assistants: One of our current projects is creating accurate records for all of our artifacts, pictures and documents. Volunteering in this area requires only light paperwork and computer knowledge. You will have the opportunity to interact with real objects under the supervision of our Collections Manager.

Youth Volunteers: We accept youth volunteers working towards service hours for their school. Teens usually help with displays, maintenance, computer programming and special events. Youth volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

General Volunteering: Not interested in being a docent or a catalogue assistant, but still want to volunteer? No problem, we have many opportunities for volunteers other than giving tours. We can work with your schedule, interest and talents. We have special needs for carpentry, and restoration work on collection items.

Special Events or Projects: We can also accommodate a more sporadic volunteer, particularly to help out with special events (such as the May Festival, Teddy Bear Tea and the Christmas Gala), or special, irregular projects ( Spring grounds clean up, collections work days, etc.)
